Social Media Strategist
David Jay
David Jay serves as Social Media Strategist at Collective Invention. He leverages a background in user experience design, online community organizing, and self-organization theory to map and build online dialog with key stakeholders. Whether mapping global dialog through twitter metrics or creating online platforms to compliment live events, David ensures that Collective Invention’s work leverages cutting edge web-based collaboration methodologies.
David’s experience with online collaboration began in 2001, when he served as webmaster and lead organizer for multiple international online organizing efforts, including the Student Peace Action Network’s campaign against war in Afghanistan. He went on to manage user experience at VolunteerMatch.org, the most active website in the United States connecting volunteers and nonprofits. In 2010 David received an MBA from the Presidio Graduate School, where he focused on sustainability and the role of online collaboration in professional environments.
A background in community organizing and web development allows David to see collaborative efforts both as living, evolving entities and as networks transmitting discrete packets of information. By understanding what pieces of information will create engagement, provide context, or trigger key emotional states David can construct online environments that are a natural extension of Collective Invention’s offline services.
A recent addition to Collective Invention’s team, David has focused on using Twitter to track and quantify global dialog happening around key terms. He is able to quickly identify and engage with thought leaders, conferences and breaking news happening on a range of topics related to Collective Invention’s work. David has also worked with Collective Invention to establish an online collaboration platform for the One Planet Economy Network (OPEN), a European coalition strategizing Europe’s transition to a sustainable economy.
