Design Consultant
Myrna Newcomb
As Design Consultant at Collective Invention, Myrna creates visually compelling reports and publications for our clients. Throughout her 12 years of experience, she has developed a thoughtful approach to design, balancing the need to communicate with a desire for design aesthetic. She started working with Collective Invention in 2009, drawn to both the work and mission of the firm.
Myrna began her career at world-renowned Pentagram in 2000, specializing in print collateral and environmental design for clients like Alcatraz, Boudin Bakery & Café, Chronicle Books and Safeco Insurance. She was a key member of the Pentagram team that launched Boudin Bakery’s 30,000 square-foot flagship store at Fisherman's Wharf in 2005. A landmark for Boudin, the project included an extensive sign system and content-rich museum centered on the parallel histories of Boudin (famous for its sourdough bread) and San Francisco. As part of that same team, Myrna helped design the graphics system for Alcatraz Island's new retail store and extended prison tour, “Doing Time".
In 2007, Myrna joined Forty Forty Agency where she worked on branding, marketing and environmental design projects for a variety of clients, including Campbell Soup Company, KEEN Footwear and NFL Players Association. One of her primary clients was The Mountain Winery, a popular outdoor concert and event venue which was poised to expand its operations. Myrna led a series of brand and environmental design projects that focused on repositioning the Winery to attract more sponsorships and event bookings, while maintaining its home-grown reputation with local concert-goers.
Building on these experiences, Myrna started her own business in 2009. She has continued her focus on print and environmental design, working on a wide range of projects over the past few years. In 2010, she completed a graphics program for the Imaginarium Discovery Center, an interactive science museum in Anchorage, Alaska. Working closely with the exhibit designer, Ansel Associates Inc., Myrna created the interpretive, instructional and environmental graphics for the museum's 70+ exhibits. In addition to Collective Invention, Myrna's clients include Brenda's French Soul Food, Extole and Mindjet.
Myrna has a BFA in Graphic Design from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, and a BA in Management Science from the University of California, San Diego.
